This compact Bondi courtyard was designed as a contemporary Mediterranean-inspired retreat, carefully balancing functionality, atmosphere, and emotional connection within a relatively small footprint. A sentimental olive tree became the centrepiece of the design, grounding the space with character and meaning while reinforcing the warm Mediterranean palette and planting style.
Despite its modest size, the courtyard delivers strong spatial impact through the creation of both formal and informal zones for entertaining and relaxation. A built-in outdoor kitchen featuring a benchtop BBQ and integrated fridge allows the space to function seamlessly for hosting, while layered seating areas encourage slower, more intimate everyday use.
The material palette combines rendered concrete masonry and white-set finishes to create a clean, timeless architectural base that reflects light beautifully throughout the courtyard. Planting selections include a thoughtful mix of native and exotic sun-loving species, helping soften the hardscape and cradle the seating areas in greenery. Finger tiles were used across the custom bench seating and cooking bench, introducing texture, cohesion, and a refined handcrafted detail to the overall design.
